Nawaz Sharif, Pakistan's former prime minister, has boarded his plane in London. He is is heading home to return to Islamabad after a seven-year exile. He wants to launch to lead a campaign against Gen Musharraf ahead of elections.
Sharif, who commands a loyal following in Punjab, minister plans to lead a motorcade from Islamabad to Lahore.
Analysts say that the military do not want to see him campaigning for power.
