The president of Pakistan, General Pervez Musharraf, made a rare admission Sunday before hundreds of Pakistani and Afghan delegates at a grand tribal assembly here, acknowledging that terrorism and militancy emanating from Pakistan had caused problems for Afghanistan, and that his country should work to secure peace on its side of the border. The general's words, and his appearance in Kabul at the final ceremony of the four-day assembly, or jirga, marked a sharp turnaround from the previous few days. The general admission indicates that Army's top brass have realized that Afghan Jihad was a blunder. If they can correct the mistake they had committed in the past. It would be beneficial for the people of Pakistan.
