Commentary: US to step up training of Pak forces

posted Friday, 25 January 2008
The Bush Administration plans to expand and accelerate the counterinsurgency training of the Pakistani forces. For this they will provide $150 assistance a year. They have this decision despite opposition from the Congress. They are of the opinion that Talibans have diverted their focus from Afghanistan to Pakistan. The y say they are helping Pakistan to stabilize it. They fear that if hardliners take over Pakistan. It will be a nightmare for international community. This was reported by Washington Post.

The report say Pakistan will contribute $1.25 in this connection. I fail to understand how Pakistan can invest such a big amount on counterinsurgencies training and equipment.
