Supreme Court of Pakistan ordered the release of Mohammad Naeem Noor Khan, who was in custody of the security agencies for three years. Mr Khan had been held without charge and had never appeared in court.
The court has been pressing the government for information on dozens of people whose relatives say they were picked up and held incognito by Pakistani intelligence agents for alleged links to militants.
Mohammad Naeem Noor Khan was arrested in July 2004, and was described by intelligence officials as an al Qaeda computer expert whose information led to the arrest of terrorism suspects in Britain and Pakistan.
Pakistani investigators said Mr Khan had invented secret codes, which enabled al-Qaeda operatives to send encrypted emails and messages via the internet.
An American intelligence official said :
“He most definitely had terrorist links.”
However, Pakistani investigators failed to produce conclusive evidence in the court.tags: politics pakistan al qaeda us americans cia
