Commenatry: Pentagon Reports US Airstrike Killed 5 Afghan Civilians, Not 90
posted Friday, 29 August 2008
Civilian deaths in Afghanistan have compelled Afghanistan's Council of Ministers to recommend their Ministries of Defense and Foreign Affairs to ask International force to halt air strikes. The recent civilian deaths in an air strike have strained relationship between Afghan authorities and the US forces.
Afghans officials say that air strike resulted in the deaths of 90 civilians. The US officials refute their claims. It has been observed that the US and NATO authorizes did not pay attention to the concerns of Afghan people and authorities. This has angered the Afghan population who say that International forces fire indiscriminately where they go for attack.
Time has come for Pentagon officials to pay heed to Afghan concerns. Otherwise, they have threatened to cancel their agreement with International forces.tags: news afghanistan us
