Iran’s election result has dented its image

Sunday, 14 June 2009 3:49 A GMT

jamaica-gleaner.com reports:

Hadi Ghaemi, spokesman for the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran, denounced the outcome as “a Tehran Tiananmen” – a reference to China’s brutal 1989 crackdown on pro-democracy activists – and urged the international community not to recognize the result.

The world should not make fuss over the election result. We all know that real power lies in the hands of Mullahs in Iran. Elections are conducted to please international community and give the impression that Mullahs are running the country with people’s consensus.

The brutal crackdown on opposition’s demonstration has dented Iran’s image.  The closure of papers and sms networks indicate that Mullahs are afraid of the changes taking place in Iran. They want to stiffle the rising disension at any cost.

A plan to defeat MQM in the upcoming elections

Thursday, 4 June 2009 3:41 P GMT

Babar Sattar writes in his artice ‘Ethnic discrimination?”:

The invidious stance against the temporary settlement of IDPs in Sindh adopted by Sindh political parties (JSQM, and in a more equivocal yet equally unmistakable manner by the MQM) exposes the ethnic fault-lines dividing our national fabric and lack of generosity of spirit of various political actors. But more importantly the ease with which fundamental rights of a vulnerable group of citizens can be transgressed in pursuit of selfish ethnic interests raises serious constitutional questions.

He expressed his real intention in the following words:

Concentration of more Pushtuns in Karachi (whether they are IDPs or others simply trying to make a better living) would influence the electoral outcome in various constituencies in Karachi and consequently dilute the political weight of the MQM . Further, while the growth in the Urdu-speaking population that constitutes the support base for the MQM will only be organic, there is a huge reservoir of Pushtuns in NWFP whose migration to Karachi could quickly swell the ANP’s support base in the city.

It means a plan has been hatched to defeat MQM in the upcoming elections.

Altaf Hussain worried at the political ‘Tamasha going in the country

Tuesday, 10 March 2009 3:09 A GMT

via The News: Breaking promises will damage Zardari

MQM supremo Altaf Hussain is a very disturbed man and minces no words in speaking out openly against the political ‘Tamasha’ going on in the Punjab and Islamabad,..

..was not much interested in saving the political system because the very existence of the state was at stake and time was running out fast.

He said:

I have been pleading with President Zardari and Mian Nawaz Sharif to start a dialogue and bring the temperature down but it appears that personalities of people change when they occupy seats of supreme power and no one then listens to any sane advice. I can only speak to them as I do not have a gun to force them

Mr. Alftaf Hussain's worriedness is justified. Our enemies can take advantage of the political turmoil and break the state of Pakistan. It is shocking to know that the two big political parties are busy in infighting to settle their old scores and consolidate their position.

Mr. Altaf is justified in thinking that the political infigting will pave the way for another army take over.

Did MQM commit heinous crimes to intimidate its opponents?

Friday, 6 March 2009 8:16 A GMT

An anti-MQM Blogger writes on his blog that MQM has committed a number of heinous crimes in Karachi to intimidate its opponents. The blogger Kazim Aizaz Alam writes :

..may I ask her who burnt half a dozen lawyers alive after locking them up in Tahir Chambers on main M A Jinnah Road on April 11, 2008? And who held the whole swathes of Karachi hostage on May 12, 2007, and killed at least 52 people in broad daylight?.

He believes that MQM activists torched people in Tahid Chambers. It means Mr. Kazim knows the witnessess who have seen the people committing this horrible crime. I urge him to pluck his courage appear before the authorites with witnessess to put the perpetrators behind bars.

MQM's opponents talk a lot abotu May 12 incident and April 11 incidents They never talk about the massacres of Mohajirs in Qasaba Colony and Pakka Qila Hyderabad.

I invite these MQM haters to see the court files of all the cases brought by the FIT and other agencies in the Sind High Court during the 'Operation Clean-up' and the read the remarks made by the then Chief Justice Nasir Aslam Zahid. These agencies could bring single evidence against MQM acticties. Even in famous case of Hakim Saeed, honourable court has freed all the MQM actvists accused of the murder.

I urge Mr. Kazim never accuse anyone without incriminating evidence. People can file suit against them for defamation.

Repercussions of Lahore incident

Thursday, 5 March 2009 6:59 P GMT

The Economist comments on the Lahore incident this way :

That Pakistan has proved unable to provide effective security for the Sri Lankans, despite extraordinary efforts by Lahore’s police in the face of a manifest threat to their lives, is dispiriting. It seems reasonable to suppose that many of Pakistan’s dwindling foreign visitors, of all stripes, will now stay away from the country. At a time of economic duress, partly related to the country’s deepening insecurity, this will have repercussions far beyond cricket.

I agree with what the paper says. It is unfortunate to see that our two biggest political parties are engaged in political wrangling instead of paying attention to the pressing issues of Pakistanis. Their lust for power will increase the political turmoil in the country

Nawaz: Things will change in a few days

Monday, 2 March 2009 6:31 A GMT

Mian Nawaz Sharif claims that situation will be under control in a few weeks. He expressed this view while addressing a seminar organized at Jamia Naeemia on Sunday. However, it did not divulge how he would achieve his goal.

He has also appealed to the Pakistan people to support him in long March.

“Support me and I shall support you,” he said.

In my opinion, Pakistani will commit blunder if they come out to support him to oust the PPP government. We cannot afford a new election at this time. Pakistan does not have the recourses to hold a new election.

He must listen to the national leaders like Altaf Hussain and start a dialogue with the PPP leaders to find an amicable solution to the present crisis caused by his rigid behavior.

MQM: Perspective and Prospective

Thursday, 26 February 2009 2:28 A GMT

Barrister Ali K.Chishti's response to Jami Chandio's article MQM: Perspective andProspective

 Dear editor Indus Asia Online Journal;

I respect Mr. Jami’s point of view but with due respect the whole article is filled by prejudice and racism.

Allow me to write a detailed response to Mr. Chandio’s piece (dispassionately).

I. “Sindh, so far, has not produced political intellectuals with enough and incisive scientific understanding of the circumstances, whereas, some writers and political circles have been there with a stance in this context.”

Mr. Chandio is trying to say that he is the “sole” intellect of Sindh whose capable enough to understand the situation and no-one else (apart from some) are pseudo?

II. Migration thrust upon the people of Hindustan when Nehru and Congress back-tracked from the Cabinet Plan. And the people who migrated from India were actually from North India as you correctly pointed out but rest assured a huge number of them were also Non-Urdu Speaking.

III. Mohajirs came to Karachi because it was the Capital of Pakistan and most of them Mohajirs were civil servants, businessman and belonged to Upper & Middle Class House Holds.

IV. Obviously Mr. Chanio’s theory of Mohajirs having no-affiliation with Pakistan is as “absurd” as his argument. I won’t go centuries back but from Sir Syed Ahmed Khan to Nawab Liaqat Ali Khan to Raja of Mehmoodabad to Nizam of Hyderabad – all mainstream Muslim League Leaders where Urdu Speaking who led movement against Imperialism. Jinnah Sahib was a Gujrati Khoja too.

V. If Mohajirs took upon Karachi because of some “alleged conspiracy” because of the coastline then by same argument lot Nawabshah and other costal areas of Sindh would have prospered too..? No..? Or the people there can’t work...?

VI. The word is “Mohajir” with a capital “M” and not with a smaller “m” which is a special “social group” accepted by UN and not an ethnicity.

VII. Perceptions are Stronger then Reality! And my friend, MQM is a victim of that perception thanks to PTV of 1990(s) which was so unbiased that it brain-washed the whole generation.

VIII. Hakim Sayeed Murder Case is a perfect example. I am glad Mr. Chandio took it up. Do you know that post-Hakim Sayeed Murder, the Sindh IG and Sindh JDG, IB were made OSD(s)? just because they knew who murdered Hakeem Sayed and they send a report to Prime Minister’s Secretariat saying clearly, “MQM was not responsible”. IG Sindh was Aftab Nabi and JDG, IB was Shah Mehboob Alam. Later the 3 victims were cleared by Sindh High Court.

IX. Blocking the Routes? Do you want me to show you the clippings and letters of Lawyers Movement asking Sindh Government to block ways? Iftikar Chaudry should be held responsible for what happened on 12th May. 14-16 MQM Workers died on 12th May too. And Ofcourse, there’s a Judgment Letter you can find issued by the Special Tribunal setup by Sindh High Court clearing the Sindh Government.

X. I think Mr. Chandio is confused? Right because the first Language Riot’s begun in 1973 when APMSO, MQM was there. So there goes your argument about MQM creating this conflict.

XI. Respected Chandio saheb, according you MQM was also responsible for killing JFK, Kidnapping Elvis – enough with your conspiracy theories.

XII. Respected Mr. Chandio think he is speaking for the people of Sindh? In reality, he doesn’t have an Iota of a mandate. Today, MQM is an ally of PPP unless you think with your conspiracy infested mind that PPP does not represent majority of Rural Sindh..?

XIII. Kindly, get the article edited again because, “Mr. Chandio is saying two things”, MQM is part of the establishment and in the next point, he say say something very opposite that it’s Anti-Establishment...

I’ll write more whenever I have time.

Regards,
Barrister Ali K.Chishti

Was Partition of India a blunder?

Monday, 23 February 2009 4:26 P GMT

A section of so called patriot Pakistania criticizes Altaf Hussain for making statement on the partition of India. He had said that partition of India was the greatest blunder in history of mankind.

Was not Pakistan created as a homeland for the Muslims of the sub-continent?

Why did the Pakistan close the border in 50s?

Stranded Pakistan cried for more than three decades for repatriation. Pakistanis living in West Pakistan did not pay attention to their pleas. Now they have accepted the citizenship of Bangladesh for the future of their children.

Thousands of people are living in Orangi. Government of Pakistan is not willing to accept them as Pakistan.

I urge the two established hypocrites Imran Khan and Qazi Sahib to get nationality.

Peace deal will legitimize the Taliban reign of terror

Saturday, 21 February 2009 12:03 A GMT
The U.S. is angry at Pakistan government for making a deal with the Taliban in the restive Swat valley. It is said that Obama Administration considers the peace deal a ‘surrender" to the extremists. The administration says that they are troubled and confused over the deal. They think it will legitimize the Taliban reign of terror. I agree with them.

Although Pakistan government has tried to convince the American officials that it is an ‘interim arrangement'. However, the U.S. has made it clear to the Pakistani government that they consider the Swat Taliban bad guys, and they would not allow them take control of the territory.

Let us see how our policy makers deal with the situation.

Pakistan could make request for Ajmal Kasab's custoday

Sunday, 15 February 2009 9:38 A GMT
Pakistan has made an indication that it could demand the custody of Ajmal Amir Kasab for questioning him. This was disclosed to media in Karachi by Rehman Malik.

India has curtly replied that it would not hand him over to the Pakistan authorities. They are of the opinion that the crime was committed in India. They are demanding that Pakistan should hand over the suspects it had apprehended.

The matter is not simple. In my opinion, the UN should intervene in this matter to resolve this matter. Otherwise recrimination between these two arch enemies will keep people of the region in tension.

Pakistan wants more money from the U.S.

Thursday, 12 February 2009 10:57 A GMT
President Asif Zardari and Prime Minister Gilani have requested US special envoy Richard to inform the new administration that Pakistan wants more money from the United States in return for its hard work.

They made it clear to the envoy that if the US wants cooperation from them in defence and intelligence sharing. They will have to issue a new aid package for Pakistan.

Pakistan Peoples' Party always criticized President Musharraf for his pro-US stance. Now they want to work for the US to safeguards its interests in the region.

The duplicity and hypocrisy of PPP leaders have shocked me. They were making rhetoric statements during Musharraf's rule that they will kick Americans from the regions and will not support the Americans like Musharraf did.
